TOP SELECTION: 7. HE IS THE KISS (Allan Chau/Ben Looker; 56kg & barrier 5) -we open the meeting with the maiden sprinters; and confident this hard fit and consistent Gold Coast-based 6YO by Dream Ahead can finally break through after years of trying; rebooting off a 2 month break. Placed in 4 consecutive runs in better fields than this before dropping out from on speed after tackling a much steeper metropolitan field over a mile in Qld. Big drop in class here; has enough tactical speed; and is primed to lead them home

RACE 2 @ 2.10pm: METROLL MAIDEN PLATE (1310m) – Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 2. DANCING TILDA (Aidan St Vincent/Grady Spokes a2kg; 57kg & barrier 5) -still with the maidens at set weights & over a furlong further; and it stacks up ideally for this lightly raced & improving 5YO by Super One who is primed to peak 2nd-up with weight relief off a very long break. Missed over 2 years of racing before finally returning with a quiet trial at Coffs in heavy going. Then resumed with a solid closing effort in a much deeper maiden than this; and with that desperately-needed run under his belt; he can break through in what is another very moderate affair

RACE 3 @ 2.45pm OUR KIDS BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1310m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 3. BONDI PROPHET (Robert Agnew/Ms Olivia Dalton a2kg; 58.5kg & barrier 3) -the sprinters again in the 1st of a few races at this restricted level; and in a fairly open race; settled on this honest 4YO by Divine Prophet who is well placed to peak 3rd-up over a longer trip. Held his position okay when resuming in a much deeper BM 58 before dropping in grade & running home well to miss by a length. Even less depth here; and striking peak fitness in the prep; he can settle back with cover and just needs a clear shot at them from the 350m

RACE 4 @ 3.24pm NORTHERN RIVERS CONCRETING CLASS 1 HCP (1210m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 3. AUSTRALASIA (Daiel S Bowen/Grady Spokes a2kg; 55.5kg & barrier 6) -back a little in distance now for the lower class iomprovers; and rating clear on top is this improving 3YO home track filly by fashionable sire Tagaloa who drops significantly in class 2nd-up behind an 8 week break. Ran home well from midfield to miss narrowly in consecutive and deeper races before the let-up; then returned with a fair run in tougher metropolitan CL1 company after covering ground. Better drawn here in a thinner race and suited by the extra trip. The one to beat

RACE 5 @ 4.04pm LISMORE FLOOR COVERINGS BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1526m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 10. HEADSTREAM (Donna Grisedale/Jon Grisedale; 59kg & barrier 6) -the lower graded gallopers again lock horns here in an open middle distance battle. Like this improving 4YO mare by Headwater who can claim a 2nd win in 3 starts this prep coming back in grade. Finished best to claim her maiden in heavy going at Coffs when resuming before closing off nicely in a much deeper race at Port. Naturally goes back up in weight for a thinner affair; but only needs some early cover from off the speed to finish over them with authority

RACE 6 @ 4.41pm M & T TYRES BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1110m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 5. PRINCE RUPERT (Robert Agnew/Grady Spokes a2kg; 58kg & barrier 5) -we close the day with a competitive sprint for the lower graders again; and in a race of a few chances; keen at the value on this improving 4YO by Winning Rupert who is well placed to score an overdue 2nd career win 3rd-up. Stuck on okay when resuming in a tougher race at Port before given a trial; then was ridden much quieter and hit the line late in a deeper BM 50 a fortnight ago. That run augurs well for this where he can settle closer from the draw before producing a superior burst over the final 300m
